DOROTHY GLOOR

Dorothy Marian Gloor, 81, passed away peacefully surrounded by loving family on Monday, February 12, 2018.

Dorothy was born in Logan Township on July 5, 1936, the daughter of the late John and Verda Knipe. She graduated from Mitchell District High School, Stratford Teacher’s College and received a BA from Wilfred Laurier University in Waterloo.

Dorothy taught school for 34 years at schools including Monkton, Elma Township and Mitchell Public retiring in 1989.

She was married to Ralph Gloor in 1956. Dorothy and Ralph farmed in the Monkton area (on the 14th and the boundary) from 1960 until moving to Mitchell in 1980.

Besides her parents and husband, she was predeceased by siblings Isobel Austin (John), Eleanor Alles (Ed), Stewart Knipe and John Michael Knipe.

She will be missed by her children Barb and Bob Walkom of Mitchell, Paul and Julie Gloor of Grosse Ile, Michigan, grandchildren Jake Walkom and Muranda Van Bakel, Zane Walkom of Mitchell, Megan and Joshua Cochrane and great granddaughter Etta Cochrane of Milwaukee, Wisconsin, Keira Gloor and Matt LaPointe of Oak Park, Michigan. She is also survived by her sisters-in-law Betty Knipe, Dorothy Knipe and Doreen Gloor and her nieces and nephews.

Dorothy loved being with her friends, whether they were traveling to different points in the world, meeting for breakfast, playing cards or scrabble, attending plays, or making quilts. She especially enjoyed making music with her friends as part of the Olde Spice Girls.

A celebration of Dorothy's life will be held at Grace Lutheran Church, 108 St. David St., Mitchell on Wednesday, February 21, 2018 at 11:00 a.m. with Pastor Ted Radke officiating. A reception will follow at the Mitchell Legion. Memorial donations to the Mitchell Food Bank, Grace Lutheran Church or charity of one's choice would be appreciated and may be made at LockhartFuneral Home.com.
